Sick Leave

VMware encourages work-life balance and a healthy working environment. You are entitled to take Sick Leave with the understanding that sick days are solely for recuperating from an illness or injury.

Entitlement

  • Up to 30 days non-hospitalized sick leave per calendar year
  • Up to 365 days within 2 years for hospitalized sick leave
  • The total of hospitalized and non-hospitalized sick leave shall not exceed 365 days within 2 years.

Extended Sick Leave

VMware provides a salary continuation program. Employees taking Sick Leave will continuously be paid at 100% of base salary for up to 60 calendar days. After 60 days, 75% of base salary will be paid for any additional leave up to a maximum total of 365 days within 2 years. Any balance not utilized cannot be carried forward to the following calendar year. If an employee requires more than a year of Sick Leave he or she may use Personal Leave and any accrued Annual Leave, after which the employee may apply for additional unpaid leave for no longer than 1 additional year.

Scheduling Sick Leave

If you are absent for reasons of illness or injury, you are required to notify the manager directly as near to starting time as possible on the first day of absence. It is VMware policy that employee speaks with manager rather than sending emails, text messages or speaking to other colleagues when intending to take Sick Leave.

Returning to Work

For Sick Leave exceeding 2 days, you are required to provide medical certificates. If you wish to return to work from Sick Leave exceeding 30 days, you will need to submit a medical certificate to prove that you are fit for work. VMware may, in its discretion, ask for fitness for work certificates in conjunction with the return from shorter leave.

After talking with your manager, please enter your Sick Leave time in Workday [VMware network access required] under time off type Sick Time Off.

VMware reserves the right to require an Independent Medical Evaluation (IME) at a Company designated hospital. If continuous treatment or rest is required, you must present valid medical certificates and doctor’s certificates to HR Source [VMware network access required] from time to time when the current doctor’s certificate expires.
