Family Care Leave

VMware provides Family Care Leave in accordance with statutory requirements so that you can take the necessary time off work to care for a family member.


All regular employees are entitled to thirty (30) days of Family Care Leave to care for a sick relative. Benefits during this period of leave are paid by Social Security. The benefit is approximately 80% of the sickness benefit qualifying annual income.

Scheduling Family Care Leave

  • Discuss your Family Care Leave plans in advance with your manager. If, for unavoidable reasons, a request could not be made in advance, you should notify your manager or HR Source [VMware network access required] as soon as reasonably possible. While business requirements must be taken into consideration, your manager will work with you to ensure that work load does not restrict you from taking Family Care Leave.
  • Once agreed with your manager, enter your Family Care Leave time off in Workday [VMware network access required] under time off type Family Care Time Off (Hours) – Unpaid.
