Adoption Leave

VMware supports employees and their families in one of the most important times in their life. If you choose to adopt or become a legal guardian of a child(ren), Adoption / Legal Guardianship allows you to take time the same time off entitlement as the biological parent.

Eligibility

Full-time and part-time VMware employees are eligible for paid Adoption Leave. It does not apply to agency workers or self-employed contractors.

Entitlement

There is no statutory entitlement applicable by law, however VMware will provide paid time off in order for you to be able to spend time with your child.

If you are the primary carer adopting or taking legal guardianship of a child, you are entitled to 14 weeks of paid adoption leave as set out in the Maternity leave policy. If you are the secondary carer, you are entitled to 4 weeks of paid Paternity leave as set out in the Paternity leave Policy.

Scheduling Adoption/ Legal Guardianship Leave

If you are adopting a new-born baby or young child(ren) under the age of three (3) years old, you should follow the same application process as outlined in the Maternity and Paternity leave process. This means you will need to provide a minimum of two (2) months’ notice prior to the baby due date.

If you are adopting a child(ren) older than age three (3) you will this leave may be taken from the earlier of the following:

  • the date in which the adoption/guardianship order is granted; or
  • from the date your child is placed in your care as a prospective adoptive parent or legal guardian by a court, pending the finalization of an adoption order.

You should contact your manager and HR Source EMEA [VMware network access required] to apply and arrange for this leave. Please ensure that this is done as soon as reasonably possible and no less than 1 month before the commencement of your leave.

Salary during adoption/guardianship leave

Where you are the primary carer, the Company will pay your usual salary during your 14-week period. Where you are the secondary carer, the Company will pay your usual salary during your 4-week leave period. Please note: This information is an overview of Adoption Leave.
