Vacation Time Off
Vacation Time Off provides you with paid time off from your job for personal reasons including vacation, outside activities, and personal business. If your absence is due to an illness or injury, you should refer to the Sick Time Off page.
Eligibility
All regular, part time and fixed term contract employees (on company payroll) are eligible for Vacation Time Off. The annual leave cycle runs from 1 January to 31 December each year.
Entitlement
Your vacation time off entitlement is calculated based on your service at the beginning of the vacation year. Unless otherwise stated in your contract of employment, you will be entitled to the statutory 25 working days of vacation time off per annum, (subject to the first year of hire – see below) plus the following additional days –
- one (1) additional day after 5 years of service
- one (1) additional day after 7 years of service (maximum 27 days)
These vacation days are in addition to public holidays employees are entitled to under the law.
Part-time employees are eligible for the same entitlement as full-time employees.
Fixed term contract employees (on company payroll) whose contract last less than six months, the employee is entitled to 2 business days of vacation per each full month of the contract’s duration.
Carry Forward
You must take all holiday entitlement for the year. Carry over of vacation days is exceptional.
According to law, employees should use all their vacation entitlement in the year it accrues and take at least 10 of your 22 working days’ entitlement consecutively.
Up to 5 days’ vacation days may be carried over to the following vacation year. These must be used by 30 April in the year following the year in which the time off accrued.
If you are unable to use your Vacation Time off due to sickness, parental or other types of family leave or other work-related events you may request a carryover of your unused Vacation Time Off entitlement to the following calendar year and agree with your manager to take these days upon returning to work.
Termination of employment
Upon termination of your employment the employer and employee may agree for any unused vacation balance to be taken. If any unused vacation days remain outstanding these must be paid out upon termination.
