VMware believes that leave is an instrument of work-life balance and recognizes that fathers play an important role in raising children. To support this, VMware provides Paternity Leave so that you can take the necessary time off work to bond with your new baby.
To be eligible for Paternity Leave you must be the biological/adoptive father of the child or the mother’s husband or partner; and have, or expect to have, responsibility for the child’s upbringing.
If you have new-born child(ren) or newly adopted child(ren) join your family, you are eligible for up to four (4) paid weeks to bond with your new child(ren). You will have one (1) year from the date of birth or legal placement into your home to take advantage of these four weeks. The four (4) weeks can be taken all at once or in weekly increments.
Paternity Leave must be taken within twelve (12) months of the birth or placement for adoption.
Scheduling Paternity Leave
- Discuss your Paternity Leave plans, in advance, with your manager. While business requirements must be taken into consideration, you manager will work with you to ensure that workload does not restrict you from taking Paternity Leave.
- Once you have approval, contact HR Source [VMware network access required] who will support you with queries on the benefit and will work with the responsible teams to ensure your Paternity Leave is tracked correctly. For the above paid absence, any balance not utilized cannot be carried forward to the following year.
Returning to Work
- Once you return to work after your Paternity Leave period, please contact HR Source [VMware network access required] towards the end of your leave to confirm your return to work along with reporting manager approval.
