VMware recognizes the value of an effective break from the working environment. Time away to re-charge and relax is encouraged and we are committed to ensuring that annual leave is taken by employees each year and can be used for:
- Vacation used for rest, recreation, or travel.
- Taking time out for loved ones

Regular full-time employees are entitled to 4 weeks of Annual Leave per year. Annual Leave is pro-rated for newly hired full-time employees. New Hires receive a pro-rated amount of leave balance in their first month.
Carry Forward and Cash out
VMware encourages you to take all vacation credits of the current year during that year, however, Annual Leave is rolled over at the end of each year and there is no cap on accumulation. VMware only permits the cashing out of unused Annual Leave when an employee resigns or ceases to be employed for any reason, at which point any accrued Annual Leave entitlements will be paid out according to relevant legislation – Inland Revenue.
Scheduling Annual Leave
- Discuss your Annual Leave plans, in advance, with your manager. If an absence is unexpected, you should notify your manager as soon as possible. While business requirements must be taken into consideration, your manager will work with you to ensure that work load does not restrict you from taking Vacation time.
- Once agreed with your manager, enter your Annual Leave in Workday [VMware network access required] under time off type Vacation Time Off.
