Annual Leave
Annual Leave provides you with paid time off from your job for personal reasons including: vacation, outside activities, scheduled medical appointments, and personal business. If your absence is due to an illness or injury, you should refer to the Sick Leave page.
Entitlement
VMware provides twenty-five (25) paid working days per calendar year to all regular employees (pro-rated for part time employees). For every five (5) years of service, you have the right to one (1) additional vacation day. Based on service years, a maximum of four (4) additional days can be accrued.
Vacation Bonus
The gross vacation bonus is paid monthly and amounts to 8% of your gross annual salary.
Carry Forward
VMware allows the carry forward of unused Annual Leave. Days lapse upon expiry of the statutory limitation period. For the minimum statutory vacation of twenty (20) days you have six (6) months after the end of the respective calendar year, for which the days was granted. For any additional days on top of the twenty (20) days, the statutory limitation period is five (5) years after the end of the respective calendar year, for which the days were granted.
Cash Out
VMware only permits the cashing out of unused Annual Leave when you resign or cease to be employed for any other reason, at which time the full accumulated/outstanding leave entitlement, which has not lapsed by that time, is paid out, unless you and VMware agree otherwise in writing in relation to Annual Leave days exceeding the statutory minimum of vacation days.
Scheduling Annual Leave
- Discuss your Annual Leave plans, in advance, with your manager. While business requirements must be taken into consideration, your manager will work with you to ensure that work load does not restrict you from taking Annual Leave.
- Once agreed with your manager enter your Annual Leave time off in Workday [VMware network access required] under time off type Vacation Time Off (Hours). You may record your time off in blocks of 8 hours (1 day) or 4 hours (half day).
