At VMware we encourage a healthy work environment. You are entitled to take Sick Time Off in accordance with statutory requirements with the understanding that sick days are solely for recuperating from an illness or injury.
VMware provides paid Sick Time Off in accordance with the law for any illness supported by a medical certificate.
Sick Time Off
If you cannot attend work because you have been taken ill, you should contact your Manager and/or HR Source EMEA as early as possible, providing:
- the nature of your illness.
- the expected length of absence from work.
- contact details; and
- any outstanding or urgent work that requires attention.
Self-certification may be used for a maximum of 2 consecutive calendar days at time, calculated from the first day of absence. This means that starting from the 3rd consecutive day of absence, you must document your illness by way of a doctor’s certificate.
In the event of urgent hospitalisation, you have 8 days from the date of hospitalisation or another incident to send to VMware your medical certificate.

Sick Pay Entitlement
VMware will pay sick pay to you at full basic salary whilst absent due to sickness up until the end of the month during which the 77th day of sickness leave occurs (consecutive or not). Thereafter the National Health Fund (“Caisse Nationale de Sante” or “CNS”) will pay statutory sickness benefit to you up to a maximum of 78 weeks
Time off for family reasons in the event of a child’s illness
This time off enables the parents of a child under the age of 18 years to stay with the child in the event of serious illness, accident, other health-related problems or other reasons provided for under law from time to time. The duration of this kind of leave depends on the age of the child.
Leave for family reasons is considered “illness” by the employee and you must inform VMware of the child’s illness on the first day of absence and submit a medical certificate to VMware as soon as possible after notification to VMware.

Scheduling Sick Leave
- You should notify your manager as soon as possible that you will not be coming to work due to illness or injury. When absent due to illness, you must provide your manager and HR Source  with a medical certificate on the 3rd working days of absence.
