Childcare Leave
If you have a child eight (8) years of age or younger or in the second year of elementary education or lower, you are entitled to take an unpaid Childcare Leave up to one year. This leave may be taken in increments. If taken in increments the leave schedule should be agreed on with your manager and HR Source [VMware network access required] and confirmed in writing. If both parents work for VMware only one may take this leave during the same period.
Benefits and Service
If you take a Childcare Leave you will continue to be eligible for Flexible Benefits and child school expense support. You will also continue to accrue Annual Leave and the time will count for length of service calculations.
Conduct During Leave
While on Childcare Leave you are still considered a VMware employee and must continue to comply with all rules of conduct, including the Business Conduct Guidelines [VMware network access required]. During your leave, you may not work at another company without prior approval from VMware. If you work at another company, while out on leave, without pre-approval, you will be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination.
Scheduling Childcare Leave
- All Childcare Leave must be discussed with your manager. If an absence is unexpected, you should notify your manager as soon as reasonably possible.
- After your manager has been notified, record your Childcare Leave in Workday [VMware network access required].
Returning to Work
At least two weeks prior to returning from any leave of absence you must contact HR Source [VMware network access required] and your manager to discuss reinstatement.
For all unpaid leaves, or paid leaves of more than 90 days, if the previous position is no longer available, VMware will attempt to place the employee in a comparable role. If no comparable role is available, or if the employee rejects the comparable role, the employee will be provided with 30 days’ notice and will exit VMware. If you do not return from either a paid or unpaid leave, you will be subject to disciplinary action.
