Enrolling in Benefits
You may enroll or change your benefits coverage with VMware if you fall under one of the respective categories:
- Open Enrollment for Existing Employee
- New Hires or Rehires
- Qualified Life Event
Open Enrollment occurs in winter each year with elections taking effect January 1st of the following year. Be sure to review the plans and plan changes and make your elections.
If you are a new hire and wish to enroll your eligible dependents, you should update your benefits by contacting HR Source  [VMware network access required] within 30 calendar days from the date of joining VMware. Eligibility for you and your legal dependents in to the insurance plan begins as of your hire date or the date your status changes.
If you are a regular full-time employee who works 40 or more scheduled hours per week, you are eligible to enroll in VMware benefit plans. Eligibility begins as of your hire date or the date your status changes. Per statutory requirements, dependent coverage is extended to the employee’s:
- Younger siblings
- Dependent relatives within 3rd degree living in the same household as the insured
In order to qualify for coverage, eligible dependents must earn under JPY 1,300,000 per year (1,800,000 for dependents over 60) and less than half of the insured’s income to be covered. Persons over 75 years old automatically join the government-managed Elderly-care scheme.
Changing Coverage Mid-Year
A qualified life event allows you to enroll or make changes to your insurance plan. A qualified life event may include:
- Birth or adoption of a child(ren) 
- Marriage 
- Divorce, legal separation 
- Loss a loved one 
If you experience a qualified life event and want to make changes to your enrollment you should contact HR Source  [VMware network access required] within 30 calendar days of the life event. If you experience birth or adoption, you have 60 calendar days from the date of the event to report it.
