Short and Long Term Disability
Short Term Disability
Short Term Disability is available when you are unable to work due to a non-work related sickness or injury and no longer receive a salary.
Eligibility
All regular full-time employees are automatically covered for short term disability through the ITS Health Insurance Association (HIA).
Waiting Period
Short Term Disability benefits will be payable after a 3 day waiting period.
Benefits
Employees receive 2/3 of their daily standard remuneration for up to 18 months through the ITS HIA due to Injury & Sickness.
VMware grants up to 1 year unpaid short term disability leave after 6 to 12 months of leave of absence (depending on Years of Service). Statutory benefits above are paid during this period.
Long Term Disability
Definition of Long Term Disablement:
- During the Elimination Period: The insured is totally disabled from any occupation that they are reasonably suited for.
- During the Benefit Period: The insured is either totally disabled from their own occupation, or partially disabled and experiencing a 20% earnings loss.
Eligibility
All regular full-time employees under age 67 years are automatically enrolled in the Disability Insurance.
Waiting Period
There is a 90 day waiting period for any benefits payable under the Disability Insurance.
Benefits
You are paid 60% of your salary loss, up to a maximum of JPY1,500,000 per month. If you are paid while still receiving benefits from Tosho-kenpo, the benefit amount from long term disability will be adjusted to cover only 60% of actual salary loss. Benefit are payable up to age 65.
