Parental Leave

VMware provides Parental Leave in accordance with statutory requirements so that you can take the necessary time off work to care of your child.

Eligibility

To qualify for Parental Leave, you must have a child who is under twelve (12) years of age, and you must have completed  twelve (12) months of continuous service.  However if your child is very near the age threshold and you have been working for your employer for more than 3 months but less than one year you can take pro-rata parental leave.

Parental Leave is granted solely for taking care of a specified child.

Entitlement

You are entitled to twenty-six (26) weeks of unpaid leave for each child born or adopted. The twenty-six (26) weeks per child may be taken in one continuous period or in two (2) separate blocks of a minimum of six (6) weeks. There must be a gap of at least ten (10) weeks between the two (2) periods.

Parental Leave must be taken before your child reaches twelve (12) years of age. In the case of an adopted child or a child with a disability, there are some limited exceptions and you may contact HR Source [1] [VMware network access required] for more information.

Parental Leave cannot be transferred between parents.

Payment

Parental Leave is unpaid. Pension contributions will be suspended during your leave period, since no salary will be paid. You will continue to accrue your Annual Leave [2] and any Public Holidays [3] that occur during your leave period.

Scheduling Parental Leave

Discuss your Parental Leave plans, in advance, with your manager. While business requirements must be taken into consideration, your manager will work with you to ensure that work load does not restrict you from taking Parental Leave. Once approval of parental leave has been received from HR, it is the responsibility of your manager to update Workday to include parental leave dates.   In the event that an arrangement is agreed where an employee takes individual days, your manager must update on a weekly basis to ensure Workday correctly records the time off as parental leave

Returning to Work

While on Parental Leave you should maintain open communication with your manager. If it is not reasonably practicable for VMware to allow you to return to work in the same job under the same or a similar contract of employment, then we may offer you suitable alternative employment under a new contract. The terms and conditions of this suitable alternative employment, will not be less favorable than those which previously applied to you.
