Short and Long Term Disability

Short Term Disability 

VMware does not provide supplemental Short Term Disability (STD) insurance as Short Term Disability benefits are payable by VMware and Social Insurance Programs.  

Eligibility 

All regular employees of VMware who work a minimum of 20% of the working week are eligible for Short Term Disability (STD) benefits, upon completion of a probationary period.  If you should become disabled, you will receive 100% of pay less the State benefit for 26 weeks. 

Definition of Disablement 

Disability is defined as the inability to work due to sickness or accident. 

Long Term Disability 

VMware provides Long Term Disability (LTD) Insurance through the Retirement Plan.   

Eligibility 

All regular employees of VMware are eligible to be covered for Long Term Disability (LTD) insurance.  Long Term Disability (LTD) benefit kicks in after 26 weeks of sickness absence. 

Benefits 

If due to accident or illness you are unable to continue your normal occupation, and the insurers are satisfied that this is the case, you will receive 2/3rds of Plan Salary less a deduction equal to the current rate of State Disability Benefit payable to a single person. 

This benefit payment will increase by 5% per annum. compound (subject to max Consumer Price Index (CPI)) in the course of payment. 

If you are a member of the Pension Plan, Retirement Contributions (excluding Additional Voluntary Contributions (AVC’s)) and the premium for your Death in Service Benefits, based on your pre-disablement Plan Salary, will be maintained whilst a claim is being paid. 

Ceasing Age 

The Benefit payment will continue to be paid to you for as long as your disablement lasts ceasing on your recovery, early retirement, leaving service, death or state retirement age, whichever occurs first. 

Enrollment 

You are automatically enrolled in the Long Term Disability (LTD) insurance, subject to acceptance by the Insurer. 

Contributions 

VMware pays 100% of the premium costs for the Long Term Disability (LTD) insurance. 

When Coverage Begins 

Coverage will begin on your first day of active work as a VMware employee. 

When Coverage Ends 

Coverage will end on the last day of your employment with VMware.
