Vacation Time Off

Vacation Time Off provides you with paid time off from your job for personal reasons including vacation, outside activities, and personal business. If your absence is due to an illness or injury, you should refer to the Sick Time Off page.

Eligibility

All regular, part time and fixed term contract employees (on company payroll) are eligible for Vacation Time Off. The annual leave cycle runs from 1 January to 31 December each year.

Entitlement

Your vacation time off entitlement is calculated based on your service at the beginning of the vacation year.

Unless otherwise stated in your contract of employment, you will be entitled to the statutory 20 working days (4 weeks) of vacation time off per annum, plus the following additional days –

  • 21 days for team members over 25 years of age
  • 22 days for team members over 28 years of age
  • 23 days for team members over 31 years of age
  • 24 days for team members over 33 years of age
  • 25 days for team members over 35 years of age
  • 26 days for team members over 37 years of age
  • 27 days for team members over 39 years of age
  • 28 days for team members over 41 years of age
  • 29 days for team members over 43 years of age
  • 30 days for team members over 45 years of age

Employees are entitled to the above age-related additional vacation days in the calendar year in which they reach the relevant age. These vacation days are in addition to public holidays employees are entitled to under the Hungarian Labor Law Employment Regulations. If you start or leave your employment during a vacation year, your vacation time off entitlement for that vacation year will accrue pro rata per complete calendar day worked.

In addition to the regular vacation entitlement, you maybe entitled for additional days for having children.

Supplementary Leave (extra days’ time off) for families having children

In Hungary, both parents have the right to claim extra paid leave based on the number of children they have –

  • 2 days for one child,
  • 4 days for two children, and
  • 7 days for three or more children. This supplementary leave may first be claimed by parents in the year the child is born, and for the last time in the year the child turns 16

Supplementary leave days must be taken each year and not subject to accrual or carry forward to the next year.

Scheduling Vacation Time Off

  • Discuss your Vacation plans, in advance, with your manager. While business requirements must be taken into consideration, your manager will work with you to ensure that workload does not restrict you from taking Vacation Leave.
  • Once agreed with your manager enter your Vacation Time Off in Workday [VMware network access required] under time off type  HU Vacation Time Off . Age related vacation need to be entered under HU Age Related Vacation Time Off.
  • Supplementary Leave days requested also need to be recorded under  HU Supplementary Leave Time Off

Carry Forward

Carrying forward Leave Entitlement is not encouraged by VMware as we encourage you to take rest from work during each Leave Cycle.  You may carry forward your unused vacation days to the next period only from your Age related vacation balance.
