Statutory Time Off

Statutory Time Off provides you with time off from your job for other reasons including election leave, leave for blood transfusions or unpaid leave of absence

Election Leave

In order for employees to exercise their voting rights, the following special paid leave is granted for the purpose of voting (based on a 5-day working week), in accordance with the relevant ministerial decisions each time.

  • from 200 to 400 km, one (1) business day
  • from 401km and up, two (2) business day
  • for islands up to 3 days

Leave for blood transfusions

  • Employees who have completed at four (4) years’ service with the same employer who are suffering from a disease requiring blood transfusions or derivatives or dialysis and who has been notified to the employer are entitled to up to twenty-two (22) business days per year extra paid leave.
  • Natural or adoptive parents of a child under the age of sixteen (16) years of age who suffers from a disease requiring blood transfusions and derivatives or dialysis are granted an additional ten (10) working days per year. This leave is payable and is granted to both parents in addition to the leave they are entitled to under other provisions.

Leave for visiting children’s school

Four (4) working days’ paid leave per year per parent for each child that attends school up to the age of 18.

Leave for parents whose children (up to 18 years of age) need regular transfusion or dialysis, have cancer, or need a transplant

Up to (10) ten working days’ paid leave per year. This is an individual right. Parents of children (of any age) who have significant learning difficulties, Down’s syndrome, or autism are also entitled to this leave.

Leave for widows, widowers, or unmarried parents caring for children

In addition to other leaves, (6) six working days’ paid leave per year. If the parent has three or more children, the said leave is (8) eight working days per year.

Special leave for undergoing medically assisted reproduction methods (IVF treatment)

An employee who is submitted to IVF treatment is entitled to seven (7) working days of leave. For the provision of same, the employee is required to submit a relevant medical certificate issued either by the attending doctor or the Chief of IVF Treatment Clinic.

Leave for children’s or other dependents’ sickness

Up to (6) six unpaid working days per year per parent of leave if the parent has one child; up to (8) eight unpaid working days if they have two children; and up to 14 unpaid working days if they have three or more children.

Leave for parents due to the hospitalization of a child (regardless of their age), which requires their immediate presence

Unpaid leave for as long as the child is hospitalized but no longer than 30 working days per year, on the condition that the parent has exhausted his/her other relevant paid leaves (excluding the annual leave). This is an individual right.

Leave for caregivers

Up to 5 unpaid working days per year to care for a relative or other person with a serious medical condition, whom they live with and who require significant care or support.

Unpaid Leave of absence

All full and part time employees may apply for unpaid leave of absence in writing of up to one (1) year period.

Scheduling “other statutory Time Off”

  • Discuss your time off plans, in advance, with your manager. While business requirements must be taken into consideration, your manager will work with you to ensure that workload does not restrict you from taking this time off.
  • Once agreed with your manager enter your Time Off in Workday [VMware network access required] under the right time off type:
  • Election time off: Civic/Jury/Court Time Off (Hours)
  • Blood transfusions: Miscellaneous Medical/Health Time Off (Hours)
  • Leave for visiting children’s school: Family Care Time Off (Hours)
  • Leave for parents with severe medical conditions (as explained above) or with significant learning difficulties or Down’s syndrome: Family Care Time Off (Hours)
  • Leave for widows, widowers, or unmarried parents caring for children: Family Care Time Off (Hours)
  • Leave for undergoing medically assisted reproduction methods): Miscellaneous Medical/Health Time Off (Hours)
