Vacation Time Off
Vacation Time Off provides you with paid time off from your job for personal reasons including vacation, outside activities, and personal business. If your absence is due to an illness or injury, you should refer to the Sick Time Off page.
VMware employees are eligible for Vacation Time Off from the start of their employment. The annual leave cycle runs from 1 April to 31 March each year.
VMware offers 30 days’ vacation to all employees who have more than 12 months service at the end of the holiday year each holiday year, comprising 24 days for summer vacation and 6 days for winter. New hires who have less than 12 months service on the 31st March accrue entitlement at 2.0 days per month. Thereafter vacation is accrued at 2.5 days per month.
In accordance with local law, the following applies:
- VMware must grant at least 12 days of uninterrupted vacation. VMware can agree that the portion of the leave that exceeds 12 days may be taken in one or two more periods.
- VMware can agree on placing the annual leave in a period that begins at the beginning of the calendar year in which the leave season takes place, and which ends the following year before the beginning of the leave season.
- In addition, VMware may agree to you taking the portion of the leave which exceeds 12 weekdays within one year of the end of the leave season.
Scheduling Vacation Time Off
- Once agreed with your manager enter your Annual Leave time off in Workday [VMware network access required] under time off type.
Vacation Time Pay and Vacation Compensation
Vacation pay and vacation compensation will be paid in accordance with the Annual Vacation Act. Vacation compensation is 50% of vacation pay. Vacation compensation is calculated on the basis of the vacation pay for annual leave/ vacation days earned in accordance with the Annual Vacation Act. Summer vacation compensation will be paid together with the June salary, and winter vacation compensation together with the February salary.
Carrying forward of vacation is not encouraged by VMware as we encourage you to take rest from work during each Leave Cycle. If however, you weren’t able to take your vacation days due to illness or any other reason, any unused vacation balance will carry forward to the next vacation year on the following basis in accordance with local law
Subject to manager approval, a maximum of 10 days (two weeks) untaken Vacation Time Off may be carried over from one Vacation Year to the next in accordance with the Annual Holidays Act. For further details please see the Time Away From Work Policy [VMware network Access required].
Time Off Entitlement upon Termination of Employment
Upon leaving VMware your annual leave/vacation balance up until the exit date will be paid out in cash in your final payroll. In the event that the vacation compensation has been paid to you in the above-mentioned manner, but requirements for vacation compensation have not been met by you, VMware reserves the right to request that the compensation be returned.
