Parental Leave

VMware provides Parental Leave in accordance with statutory requirements so that you can take the necessary time off work to take care for your child.

Eligibility

To be eligible for Parental Leave you must be the mother or father of a child and be eligible for maternity, paternity or adoption leave. Parental leave is taken straight after these leaves. After the parental leave period is over, the father or mother can take unpaid childcare leave to look after their child until the child turns 3 subject to you having been employed by VMware for at least 6 months during the past year.

Entitlement

You are entitled to take unpaid Parental leave up to a maximum of 158 working days and it can either be taken on a full or part time basis.

Both parents can take full-time parental leave for a maximum of two leave periods. The minimum length of a period of leave is 12 working days. Parental leave may be taken part-time, with each of the parents agreeing with their employer to shorten their working hours and reduce their pay accordingly for at least two months.

Parental leave can be extended by 60 working days in the case of multiple births.

Scheduling Parental Leave

You should inform your manager and HR Source of your Parental Leave as soon as reasonably possible, so that proper arrangements can be made prior to your leave period. Once approval of parental leave has been received from HR, it is the responsibility of your manager to update Workday to include parental leave dates.   In the event that an arrangement is agreed where an employee takes individual days, your manager must update on a weekly basis to ensure Workday correctly records the time off as parental leave
