At VMware we encourage a healthy work environment. You are entitled to take Sick Leave in accordance with statutory requirements with the understanding that sick days are solely for recuperating from an illness or injury.
You are entitled to up to twelve (12) months of Sick Leave.
From the first day of sick leave, you must provide your manager and Payroll with a copy of your medical certificate (Baja Medica), within three (3) days from the date of issue. This is required even if you are only sick for one day and must be issued by the Primary Care Doctor (Public Health Service). Subsequent certificates must also be provided to your manager and Payroll within three (3) days from the date of issue.
VMware will then deliver the medical certificate to the Social security within three (3) calendar days from its reception in order to unregister you.
If a medical certificate is not provided, the absence will be considered as unjustified and tracked as unpaid absence from work. Repeated unjustified absences from work may lead to a disciplinary dismissal.
Your doctor needs to certify your fitness before returning to work.

Scheduling Sick Leave
All Sick Leave planned or unplanned, must be discussed with your manager. If an absence is unexpected, you should notify your manager as soon as possible.
