Sick Leave
At VMware we encourage a healthy work environment. You are entitled to take Sick Leave in accordance with statutory requirements with the understanding that sick days are solely for recuperating from an illness or injury.
Entitlement
You are entitled to up to twelve (12) months of Sick Leave.
During sick leave, the Primary Care Doctor (Public Health Service) will provide you with one (1) copy of the medical certificate (Baja Médica). This is for you to keep, for your personal records. The Social Security will submit the second copy of the medical certificate (Baja Médica) to VMware directly.
The medical certificate (Baja Médica) is required even if you are only sick for one day.
If a medical certificate is not obtained, the absence will be considered as unjustified and tracked as unpaid absence from work. Repeated unjustified absences from work may lead to a disciplinary dismissal.
Your doctor will need to certify your fitness before you are able to return to work (Alta Médica). The date of the Alta Médica is the last day of the sick leave. You can return back to work the day immediately after the date of the Alta. Again, the Primary Care Doctor (Public Health Service) will provide you with one (1) copy the medical certificate (Alta Médica). This is for you to keep, for your personal records. The Social Security will submit the second copy of the medical certificate (Alta Médica) to VMware directly.
Sick pay is calculated according to the relevant CBA pay provisions in force. The company will top up the shortfall of sick pay up to 100% of base salary for up to one year, for sickness absence due to illnesses and accidents. For OTE entitlements, please refer to the Corporate Bous Plan & Commission Plan.
For more information see Short Term Disability benefits.
Scheduling Sick Leave
All Sick Leave planned or unplanned, must be discussed with your manager. If an absence is unexpected, you should notify your manager as soon as possible.
Please inform your Manager and HR Source about your sickness, through the available channels. As the Primary Care Doctor (Public Health Service) will only provide you with one copy of the medical certificate (Baja Médica), for you to keep for your personal records, we would appreciate if you could inform your Manager and HR Source with:
- Your Sick Leave start date (Baja)
- Your next medical appointment
Return to Work
As the Primary Care Doctor (Public Health Service) will only provide you with one copy of the medical certificate (Alta Médica), for you to keep for your personal records, we would appreciate if you could inform your Manager and HR Source with your Sick Leave end date (Baja).
You will then need to record your Sick Leave days in Workday [VMware network access required] under Time Off Type ES Sick (Short Term) Time Off.
