Vacation Time Off provides you with paid time off from your job for personal reasons including vacation, outside activities, and personal business. If your absence is due to an illness or injury, you should refer to the Sick Time Off page.
Eligibility
VMware employees who have been employed for a full preceding year are eligible for Vacation Time Off. Part – time employees and those starting their employment during the year, will receive pro-rata entitlement. The Vacation Time Off cycle runs from 1 January to 31 December each year.
Entitlement
Your Vacation Time Off entitlement is calculated based on your service at the beginning of the Holiday Year.
Unless otherwise stated in your contract of employment, you will be entitled to the following periods of Vacation Time Off in addition to public holidays:
- 21 working days if you have worked for less than 10 years for one or more employers;
- 30 working days if you have worked for 10 years of more for one or more employers, or if you are over 50 years of age.

You must take at least 15 days’ Time Off each Holiday Year, inclusive of a period of 6 consecutive days’ Time Off each Holiday Year. Employees are encouraged to take their entire Time Off entitlement each Holiday Year.
Each Holiday Year, employees may also request up to 6 days for emergency Time Off as provided for by the applicable law. Employees are permitted to take a maximum of 2 consecutive days emergency Time Off per each emergency Time Off period. Emergency Time Off does not require prior approval by VMware. However, the employee must report any emergency Time Off days they intend to take or notify VMware as soon as they become aware that this Time Off is required. Employees’ Vacation Time Off entitlement is inclusive of this emergency Time Off entitlement.
Scheduling Vacation Time Off
- Discuss your Vacation Time Off plans, in advance, with your manager. While business requirements must be taken into consideration, your manager will work with you to ensure that work load does not restrict you from taking Vacation Time Off.
- Once agreed with your manager enter your Vacation Time Off in Workday [VMware network access required] under time off type Vacation Time Off (Days).
Carry Forward
Carrying forward Leave Entitlement is not encouraged by VMware as we encourage you to take rest from work during each Leave Cycle.
Subject to the prior approval of your manager, a maximum of 5 days’ untaken Time Off may be carried over from one Holiday Year to the next. Carried over Time Off will be forfeited if not taken in the first three months in the subsequent Holiday Year.
