Bereavement Time Off
VMware understands that losing a loved one can be unexpected and a difficult time in your life. Therefore, VMware provides up to twenty (20) business days of paid time off to grieve the loss of a loved one, attend funeral services, and take care of any personal matters. In addition, employees are granted up to two (2) business days for the loss of a family pet.
All active employees of VMware are eligible upon your date of hire (excluding external contractors). There is no minimum period of Company service required.
You may take Bereavement Time Off for up to four (4) weeks at 100% of your base salary, for a total of twenty (20) working days in the event of death of a loved one, which is determined by employee’s own personal and familial relationships. You may take Bereavement Leave for up to two (2) business days for the loss of a family pet. For more information, please see the applicable Bereavement Leave policy [VMware network access required].
Scheduling Bereavement Leave
- Discuss your Bereavement Time Off plans, in advance, with your manager. If an absence is unexpected, you should notify your manager as soon as possible. While business requirements must be taken into consideration, your manager will work with you to ensure that your work load does not restrict you from taking Bereavement Leave.
- Upon your return, notify the Payroll Team (firstname.lastname@example.org) of your Bereavement Time Off days.
