Short and Long Term Disability

Short Term Disability 

VMware does not provide supplemental Short Term Disability (STD) insurance as Short Term Disability benefits are paid by VMware and Social Insurance in accordance with statutory requirements. 

Eligibility 

All regular full and part time employees of VMware are eligible for Short Term Disability (STD) benefits. Disability is defined as the inability to work due to sickness or accident. Short Term Disability (STD) benefits will be payable on the first day of illness or disability. 

Benefits

Salary Continuation  or  Lohnfortzahlung im Krankheitsfall First six (6) weeks 100% of salary
Cash Sickness or Krankengeld After six (6) weeks up to 78 weeks. 70% of gross income (limited to 90% of net income)

If you should become disabled, you will receive a monthly income replacement benefit of 100% of salary from VMware for the first 6 weeks of sickness (“Salary Continuation” or ”Lohnfortzahlung im Krankheitsfall”) . After 6 weeks, the health fund pays 70% of gross income (“Cash Sickness” or “Krankengeld”) (limited to 90% of net income), up to the health insurance ceiling for a maximum of 78 weeks during a three year period. 

Long Term Disability 

VMware provides Long Term Disability (LTD) Insurance. All regular full-time employees of VMware are eligible for Long Term Disability (LTD) insurance. 

Benefits 

In the event that you should become disabled, you will receive: 

  • Annual disability pension amounting to 15% of pensionable salary up to the Social Security Contribution Ceiling 
  • Plus 40% of pensionable salary above the Social Security Contribution Ceiling 

Free Cover Limit 

You will automatically be registered for Long Term Disability (LTD) benefits up to € 5,000 monthly (€ 60,000 per annum). If your LTD benefit will exceed this amount, you will need to complete a health declaration form to qualify for benefit amounts exceeding € 5,000. 

Enrolment 

You are automatically enrolled in the Long Term Disability (LTD) insurance and insured for amounts under the free cover limit. In order to qualify for insurance amounts exceeding the free cover limit, you will need to complete a health declaration form. 

Contributions 

VMware pays 100% of the premium costs for the Long Term Disability (LTD) insurance, however, you will pay benefit tax on the paid premium.

When Coverage Begins 

If your start date as a VMware employee is the 1st of the month, your coverage will start on this date. If your start date as a VMware employee is on a date during the month, your coverage will start on the 1st of the following month.

When Coverage Ends 

Coverage will end on the last day of your employment with VMware.

Retirement

the last entry of the benefit period is aged 66 years and the end of the end of the benefit period is the actuarial age of 67.
