Medical Leave

For those times when you need to be absent from work for medical reasons, VMware employees are entitled to take Medical Leave, in accordance with statutory requirements, when approved by the Costa Rican Social Security Institution (Caja Costarricense de Seguro Social – CCSS). If your absence is related to Workers Compensation (Riesgos del Trabajo), due to work injuries, accidents and/or illnesses, you are may take Medical Leave, in accordance with statutory requirements, when approved by Instituto Nacional de Seguros (INS).

Eligibility

All Costa Rica regular full-time and part-time employees and interns who are employed directly by VMware.

Scheduling Medical Leave

All Medical Leave, planned or unplanned, must be discussed with your manager. If an absence is unexpected, you should notify your manager as soon as reasonably possible.

After your manager is notified, you or someone on your behalf will also need to report your Medical Leave by opening an HR Source ticket [1] [VMware network access required] including the medical certificate by the clinic affiliated with the CCSS, your leave start and end date to guarantee your payments during your leave.

Returning to Work

While on Medical Leave, you should maintain open communication with your manager. Once you return to work, open an HR Source ticket [1] [VMware network access required] confirming your leave end date return to work date.
