Paternity Leave
VMware believes that leave is an instrument of work-life balance and recognizes that fathers play an important role in raising children. To support this, VMware provides Paternity Leave so that you can take the necessary time off work to bond with your new baby.
Effective March 1, 2022, VMware Maternity Leave falls within the Global Paid Parental Leave policy. All active employees whose child is born on or after March 1st, 2022 are eligible for the leave entitlements detailed below. If your child was born prior to March 1st, 2022, please note that the previous leave policy applies. To understand your entitlements under the previous leave policy please review the relevant policy on VMware Source.
Eligibility
To be eligible for Paternity Leave you must be the biological / adoptive father of the child or the mother’s husband or partner; and have, or expect to have, responsibility for the child’s upbringing.
This Program applies to all permanent full-time and part-time employees (“Employees” or “Employee”) directly employed by VMware and are eligible as of the employment start date. Subject to applicable law, contractors and non-employees are not eligible to participate in this Program.
Entitlement
Employees are entitled to receive up to eighteen (18) weeks of leave, paid at their base salary rate (subject to applicable law) or, for commissioned employees, on target earnings (OTE), where they seek time off from work for adoption, and/or to spend time with their new child. You will have twelve (12) months from the date of birth or legal placement into your home to take advantage of these eighteen (18) weeks.
GPPL can be used all at once or divided into a maximum of three separate blocks of time, which do not have to be equal lengths of time off. For the avoidance of doubt, any Local Benefits already availed will be set off against GPPL.

Scheduling Paternity Leave
Inform your manager of your Leave as soon as reasonably possible. This will allow adequate time for the proper arrangements to be made prior to your leave period.
After aligning with your manager on dates, open a Leave of Absence request ticket [VMware network access required]. HR Source [VMware network access required] will support Employees with queries on GPPL and will work with the teams responsible to ensure GPPL is tracked correctly. For GPPL, any balance of leave or pay not utilized in the twelve (12) months from the date of their new child’s birth or the official legal adoption placement date will be forfeited and cannot be carried forward beyond that period.
Returning to Work
Once you return to work, open an HR Source ticket [VMware network access required] confirming your leave end date return to work date.
