Maternity Leave
VMware recognises the importance and value of its employees’ family lives and seeks to provide a family-friendly environment that is supportive of working parents. VMware provides Maternity Leave in accordance with statutory requirements so you can have the necessary time off work to recover and bond with your baby.
Eligibility
Permanent full-time employees of VMware, who are legal parents of the child on the date of birth are eligible from the date of employment with VMware.
In the event of miscarriage/loss of pregnancy, you may avail local miscarriage leave or global bereavement leave and not both.
Entitlement
You are entitled to maternity leave in accordance with the local laws of each city, up to one hundred and fifty-eight (158) days of leave inclusive of the statutory pre-natal period for most cities. The start date of Maternity Leave should be no earlier than 15 days at most prior to the date of the expected delivery, and no later than the date of childbirth. Maternity leave must be used in one block, in line with local legislation at one time. VMware will grant extra paid leave in accordance with the local laws of each city.
Payment
Eligible employees will be paid at 100% of your base salary rate during the maternity leave period. Employees on commission will be paid at on-target earnings (OTE) for a maximum of eighteen (18) weeks, and at your base salary rate for the remaining period. Scheduling Maternity Leave
- Inform your manager of your intention to take Maternity Leave no later than two calendar months prior to the intended leave start date; and
- Align with your manager on the leave start date to ensure that appropriate business arrangements are in place for each period of absence
- Once you have approval, contact HR Source [VMware network access required] who will support you with queries on the benefit and will work with the responsible teams to ensure your Maternity Leave is tracked correctly. Provide a doctor’s certificate to HR Source [VMware network access required] as soon as reasonably possible.
Returning to Work
While on Maternity Leave, you should maintain open communication with your manager and the HR Source [VMware network access required]. VMware will assume that you wish to return to work at the end of your Maternity Leave period; however, you should contact HR Source [VMware network access required] towards the end of your leave to confirm and arrange your return to work.

Adoption

VMware provides adoption under Maternity Leave in accordance with our Global Paid Parental Leave (GPPL) program [VMware network access required] so you can have the necessary time off work to bond with your new child.
Permanent full-time and part-time active employees of VMware, who are legal parents of the child on the date of placement for adoption, are eligible from the date of employment with VMware.
You are eligible for up to eighteen (18) weeks of paid leave to bond with your new child, to be utilized within 12 months from the date of legal adoption of the child. The eighteen (18) weeks are to be taken in units of weeks and can be used all at once or divided up into a maximum of three (3) separate blocks, which do not have to be equal. Any balance of leave not utilized in the twelve (12) months from the date of the new child’s legal adoption placement will be forfeited and cannot be carried forward
To schedule Adoption Leave, inform your manager of your intention to take Adoption Leave no later than two calendar months prior to the intended leave start date; and align with your manager on the leave start date, and the dates of the separate blocks if you intend to take your Adoption Leave in up to three separate blocks, to ensure that appropriate business arrangements are in place for each period of absence. Once you have approval, HR Source [VMware network access required] who will support you with queries on the benefit and will work with the responsible teams to ensure your Maternity Leave is tracked correctly. Provide an adoption certificate to HR Source [VMware network access required] as soon as reasonably possible.
