VMware provides parental leave in accordance with statutory requirements so that you can take the necessary time off work to take care of your child.
You may be eligible for other leaves in addition to Parental leave. Review the Maternity Leave [3] page for more information.
Eligibility
Parental Leave is available to birth mothers and non birth parents including adoptive parents. Each parent’s eligibility to take Parental Leave is based on their own entitlement at the time the leave is taken. Two (2) parents who qualify for Parental Leave are neither required to take their share of Parental Leave at the same time, nor prevented from doing so.
Entitlement
Parental Leave is generally taken immediately following Maternity Leave [3] but may be taken by either parent at any time in the first fifty-two (52) weeks of a child’s life. The amount of leave to which parents are entitled is based on the provincial standards.
VMware Maternity / Parental Leave Top-Up
VMware will provide a top-up to supplement EI (Employment Insurance) benefit payments up to 18 weeks of maternity/parental leave. As outlined in the Global Paid Parental Leave policy the top-up will be up to 100% of salary. Refer to the Global Paid Parental Leave policy [1] for details.
In order to process the VMware top-up, you will need to provide Payroll with the details of your approved EI benefit amount. This can be done by sending a copy of your approval letter or communication from Service Canada, which shows your gross weekly benefit. Your top-up will be calculated based on that amount.
Your Record of Employment (ROE) will be prepared based on the last day of work which you will provide as part of your HelpNow request. The ROE will be sent electronically to the government within 5 days following your last pay period.
Scheduling Parental Leave
Inform your manager of your Leave as soon as reasonably possible. This will allow adequate time for the proper arrangements to be made prior to your leave period.
Open an HR Source ticket [VMware network access required] to report your Leave and include your leave’s start and end date of leave
Benefits While on Leave
Benefits will continue while on leave as per below:
- Normal deductions will be processed during the first 18 weeks of leave
- VMware will cover employee benefit premiums beyond 18 weeks until you return to work.
- Contributions to the Registered Retirement Savings Program (RRSP & DPSP) will suspend beyond the 18-week period, until you return
Returning to Work
4 weeks prior to your anticipated return, connect with your manager to discuss your return and reintegration back to the team. Also, pen an HR Source ticket [4] [VMware network access required] confirming your leave end date and return to work date. These key steps will ensure a smooth transition back to work.
