Medical Leave Entitlement

In accordance with statutory requirements, on the 16th day of a disability, you may be eligible for benefits through Social Security (INSS). During this time, if you have been with VMware for more than 1 year, you will be entitled to a pay-out from VMware equal to 70% of the difference between your current salary and the monetary benefit being paid by Social Security (INSS). The pay-out is subject to the following conditions:

  • It applies only between the 16th to the 180th day of absence
  • It is limited to a cap of ten (10) official minimum wage as established by the Government, and
  • It applies only once a year and for one specific long-term disability

Salary Payment during Medical Leave

If you have completed one (1) year of service with VMware, you will be entitled to a complementary pay out from VMware equal to 70% of the difference between your current salary and the monetary benefit being paid by the Social Security.

This pay-out is subject to the following conditions:

  • It applies only between the 16th up to the 180th day of absence
  • It is limited to a cap of 10 (ten) times the official minimum wage as established by the Government, and
  • It applies only once a year and for one specific long-term disability

Scheduling Medical Leave

All Medical Leave, planned or unplanned, must be discussed with your manager. If an absence is unexpected, you should notify your manager as soon as reasonably possible.

  • After your manager is notified, you or someone on your behalf will also need to report your Medical Leave, via email or Help Now ticket, to the Payroll team and HR Source [VMware network access required]. HR team will validate your Leave of Absence and will include it in Workday. You will need to attach a scanned copy of your doctor’s certificate.

Open an HR Source ticket [VMware network access required] to report your Medical Leave. Include your leave’s start and end date along with the medical certificate to guarantee your corresponding payments during your leave.

Returning to Work

Once you return to work, open an HR Source ticket [VMware network access required] confirming your leave end date and return to work date.
