VMware supports employees and their families in one of the most important times in life – the adoption of a child. Adoption Leave allows you to take time off in accordance with statutory requirements so that you can take the necessary time off work to bond with your new child.
Full-time and part-time VMware employees are eligible for paid Adoption Leave. It does not apply to agency workers or self-employed contractors.
If you are adopting a child, you are entitled to four (4) weeks paid Adoption Leave. This must be taken within two (2) months following the child’s registration in the Belgian National Register or in the Foreign Register.
Your paid Adoption Leave is inclusive of any statutory Adoption Leave and allowance which you may be entitled to. This means that you will receive your usual base salary for up to four (4) weeks of your Adoption Leave. If you take any Adoption Leave more than four (4) weeks you will receive the usual statutory adoption allowance from your health fund in this time. You will need to confirm your weekly amount of statutory adoption allowance, to VMware as soon as possible.
Scheduling Adoption Leave
You should inform your manager and HR Source [VMware network access required] of your Adoption Leave as soon as reasonably possible, so that proper arrangements can be made prior to your leave period. While business requirements must be taken into consideration your manager will work with you to ensure that work load does not unreasonably restrict you from taking Adoption Leave.
Please note: This information is an overview of Adoption Leave. Refer to the Belgium Paid Family Leave Policy [VMware network access required] for detailed information.
For additional support and resources to consider with the addition of a child to your family, see the Birth or Adoption life event page.
