Employees are entitled to Community Service Leave, for jury service (including attendance for jury selection), as well as voluntary emergency activities with recognised emergency management bodies, such as fire-fighting, civil defence or human or animal rescue.
If you serve on a jury, you will be paid your full basic salary (minus any jury service pay) during the first ten (10) days of your jury service. After ten (10) days of jury service, if the case you are assigned to is a protracted trial over several months, VMware reserves the right to cease or reduce the payment of your salary. For exemption request letters from the company, please raise a HelpNow ticket here  [VMware network access required] and attach a copy of the Court Order or other written evidence of your attendance at court and list the work related reasons for the exemption.
Voluntary Emergency Activities
Community Service Leave for voluntary emergency activities is for a reasonable time under the circumstances while engaged in an eligible community service. It includes time for travel and for rest, immediately after the activity. You must provide reasonable notice as practicable and documentation of your activity.
Please Note: This Community Service Leave provision is not considered community service as outlined under the VMware Foundation Service Learning Program  [VMware network access required].
Scheduling Community Service Leave
- Discuss your Community Service plans, in advance, with your manager. While business requirements must be taken into consideration, your manager will work with you to ensure that work load does not restrict you from taking Community Service Leave.
- Once agreed with your manager, enter your Community Service Leave in Workday  [VMware network access required] under time off type Civic/Jury/Court (Days).
